CEO and Co-Founder
Tim Reeser is CEO and Co-Founder of Lightning Systems, which manufactures and sells a connected suite of efficiency and emissions reduction solutions for fleet trucks and buses, including all-electric conversion systems, hybrid conversion systems, and analytics systems, providing a fast ROI through fuel savings. Lightning Systems investors include BP Ventures, Aravaipa, and CoorsTek, and its customer list includes UPS, DHL, Arriva, National Express and NREL.
Tim has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from CSU, and has been involved with alternative transportation technology since 1990, when he helped design the first dedicated CNG truck for General Motors while at Colorado State University.
Prior to co-founding Lightning Systems, Tim served as Vice President of Colorado State University Ventures, where he spun out clean-tech companies and built the framework to support accelerated growth of spin-outs and spin-ins at CSU.
Chairman of the Board
Robert Fenwick-Smith serves as the chairman of the board of directors for Lightning Systems. As the Senior Managing Director of Aravaipa Ventures, he is one of Lightning Systems’ key investors.
Robert founded Aravaipa in early 2008 with 20 years of global experience managing, acquiring, founding, building, merging, and selling companies. He currently serves as Chairman of AXIT AG (Germany), a leading Cloud Supply Chain Management company, where he led a turnaround to current high profitability.
He holds a BA in Economics from HEC Lausanne (Switzerland) and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Robert is frequently invited to speak and serve on Cleantech and Impact Investing panels. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association and has built a LEED Platinum home in Boulder, CO.
Leading the Accounting, HR, Purchasing, and IT Departments at Lightning Systems, Rob Mulcair serves as CFO. He manages the day-to-day accounting and business activities through financial reporting and forecasting, budgeting, and cash and asset management. In addition, Rob carries out HR functions including employee relations and staff development.
Rob holds a degree in Accounting with a minor in Computer Science from William Patterson University along with an M.B.A. in Managerial Finance and Management Information Systems from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.
Having joined the company in March 2014, Rob is absolutely essential to the financial and business side of Lightning Systems. With the majority of his career being within technology companies, Rob thrives in a technical environment with strong engineering and design principles.
Bill Kelley recently joined Lightning Systems as Chief Technology Officer, defining our product and engineering strategy as we expand our product line to include electric vehicles, analytics solutions and more. For the past four years, he has served as an expert consultant to the company on technical matters.
Prior to his time as a consultant, Bill was the corporate vice president of advanced engineering for Borg Warner. His positions included overseeing the operation of Borg Warner’s Powertrain Technical Center in Auburn Hills, Mich. and managing the company’s internal investment fund for research and development. He also was directly responsible for design, development and implementation of advanced powertrain products for fuel economy improvement and emissions reductions across the globe.
Based in the Detroit region, Dave Brosky is Vice-President of Sales for Lightning Systems, responsible for leading the sales effort in North America. He builds strong relationships and secures new business opportunities with customers and partners including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), dealers/distributors, upfitters/installers and service partners.
He has 25 years of experience in sales, marketing and program management for leading automotive and commercial vehicle parts and equipment suppliers, including Dana Corporation and Robert Bosch. He joined Lightning Systems in March 2014.
For the last 10 years of his career, he has lead the business development and sales efforts for innovative, disruptive technologies resulting in either successful spin-offs or self-sustaining business entities.
Director of Emissions Regulation and Strategy and Interim Director of Production
Brian Dean Johnston serves Lightning Systems as the Director of Emissions Regulation and Strategy. He is responsible for the development, performance testing, and certification of a proprietary hydraulic hybrid Energy Recovery System.
Brian joined Lightning Systems in 2012. He has expertise in both chassis dynamometer and Portable Emissions Measurement System (PEMS) testing. He represents the company for all emission testing and regulation activities including for the Environmental Protection Agency, California Air Resources Board, and others.
Academic achievements include a B.S. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University, and a M.S. in Systems Engineering from Colorado State University. His graduate research evaluated Vehicle-to-Grid systems.
Brian began his professional career as a U.S. Navy pilot, where he served with distinction, retiring at the rank of Commander. He later directed engineering and flight test programs as Lead Systems Engineer for Lockheed Martin’s HC-144A Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
Director, Technology Integration and Interim Engineering Director
Bridging the gap between product development and field maintenance, Keith is responsible for the successful deployment of the LightningHybrid system into new vehicle platforms, ensuring that the system functions correctly and is tuned optimally to give the best performance and experience for the customer. His focus is worldwide, with activities in the US, the UK and elsewhere. He enjoys the opportunity to blend purely technical work with a broader management approach to achieve the best results for our customers. He is as interested in regarding Lightning Systems, its partners and its customers as a “system” that can benefit from engineering principles as he is in the nuts, bolts and hoses of the ERS. He has contributed to the company’s transition to a more analytical and data driven approach to engineering and business. Prior to his current role, Keith served LS as a controls engineer and system engineer.
Keith obtained a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, during which time he worked as an intern at Woodward, focused on a technology that improves the overall efficiency of electrical wind turbines. On graduation, he joined Woodward’s aircraft division working on air control valves, a role which combined product development with testing.
Business Development Director
Ross MacKerron is the Business Development Director for Lightning Systems International, where he leads market and business development efforts primarily in the UK and European markets. Ross is based in our UK office at MIRA in the Midlands. He is focused on developing and implementing sound sales strategies to achieve profitable and sustainable growth of the Lightning Systems products with commercial fleets, OEMs and distribution partners.
Ross has over 25 years motor industry experience and has worked previously in operational management roles with Honda, Ford and Chevrolet. As International Sales Manager for The London Taxi Company, he was responsible for significantly growing sales of the iconic ‘London Black Cab’ into European markets while also project managing the development of a fully electric model – which are still operating on the streets of Amsterdam today. In his most recent role, Ross lead the automotive business development efforts for the internationally respected Transport Research Laboratory.
Ross is a passionate advocate of low emissions drivetrains and also a self-confessed ‘petrol head’ who is as happy working under a vehicle as he is negotiating around a boardroom table.
Vice-President, Marketing and Communications
Bonnie has been with Lightning Systems since the beginning of the company, providing branding and marketing for all stages, from a 100 MPG sports car concept through a multi-national hybrid vehicle company. In addition to directing the global Lightning Systems brands, she manages all marketing efforts worldwide, handles international media relations, government relations, and is responsible for managing grants and incentives for both customers and the company.
Prior to joining Lightning, she raised over $20 million for environmental and human services non-profits/NGOs through public awareness, major gifts, and grants, and has over 20 years of marketing and communications experience in a variety of fields. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Art from Colorado State University.
Director of Customer Operations and Analysis
Tyler Yadon serves Lightning Systems as Director of Customer Operations and Analysis. Leading the department in charge of all LightningHybrid systems in the field, Tyler provides customer care by managing maintenance and service operations, developing and supporting the LS service network, and ensuring all ERS systems are operating reliably. In addition, Tyler directs the analysis team, which tracks, analyzes, and reports system performance in real-time.
Tyler joined the team in 2012 and is one of the chief players in the development and actualization of the ERS product. He has served LS as Controls Engineer and System Support Manager and has expertise in project management, client support, software development, circuit board design, electronics and hardware implementation, automotive integration/engineering, and mechanical engineering.
Tyler holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado. He served as Project Manager on the CU Formula SAE Racing Team, earning top marks for business proposal and marketing at the SAE International competition, and winning “Best Mechanical Design Project” at CU’s Engineering Design Expo.
