Start Saving Brakes
The LightningHybrid saves energy by slowing the vehicle down while converting motion energy into stored pressure. In other words, for most situations of slowing down and stopping, the LightningHybrid becomes the primary braking system. The standard brakes are needed if slowing down above 40 mph, or to hold the vehicle stationary once stopped, but for most urban driving, the LightningHybrid does most of the deceleration.
This means that the standard brakes are used much less than on a stock vehicle. Your components (pads, rotors, shoes and drums) will experience less wear and will last longer between replacements. This saves time and money.
The standard brakes won’t usually get hot. After all, the LightningHybrid‘s function is to convert energy into something that can be reused, not into heat which dissipates and is lost. This means that the brakes are less likely to fade through overheating.
Finally, reduced brake wear is good for the environment too – read more here.
The LightningHybrid can operate as a brake retarder on long downgrades. Once the accumulator has reached its capacity, it won’t accept any more energy; but the braking behavior of the LightningHybrid will remain in effect, controlling the vehicle’s speed while sparing the standard brakes.
